How To Change Your Facebook Profile To a Business Fan Page
A few years back when businesses started using Facebook, some of them inadvertently launched a Facebook profile instead of a Facebook fan page.
They have since realized that a profile is not the proper platform to market their business, organization or brand.
For some time now these users have been asking Facebook for a solution to remedy the mistake.
So last week, Facebook released a tool that allows users who created a personal profile for their business to convert that profile to a page. Users who choose to migrate their profiles to pages will have all their friends automatically changed to fans, but all other data (Wall, Info, Photos etc) will be lost.
Here are 5 simple steps to migrate from Facebook Profile to Facebook Page:
- Go to the ‘Profile to Business Page migration’ tool;
- Choose the type of page that you wish to convert to;
- Click to Accept the terms & To Get Started;
- You will then be taken to your new page where you may edit as you wish;
- Facebook will copy over your profile, your friends will become fans and everything else will be lost!
This process was initially set up to be irreversible. However some users who did not fully understand the process or the consequences thereof, have complained about deleted accounts, accidental conversions and other problems.
Facebook has now created a Profile to Business Page Migration Appeal through which unhappy users may apply to have the conversion reversed.

The Appeal’s Page explains that:
“Profile to Business Page migrations are meant for profiles that do not represent a person. If you have accidentally migrated your profile to a page, you can submit your request for a reversal. Please keep in mind that we will remove your business Page if your profile is restored. We may reject any appeals that we deem to be inappropriate. Further we may not reply to all submitted appeals.”
Facebook is certainly doing their best to keep users happy by innovating, responding quickly to users’ requests and maintaining a platform that adapts easily with users’ preferences. I think they’re doing a great job!
